Edmonton social evening reception, Sept 22, 6-8pm

The Edmonton chapter kicked off its 2011/2012 season with an evening social reception for existing and potential members at the Northlands Edmonton EXPO Center.

The chapter was delighted to have Alex Stieda present his story of professional cycling, and how many components relate to the world of Information Technology. Alex is Senior Account Executive at Long View Systems, and a professional cyclist. The event was complimentary for attendees courtesy of Long View Systems.

About the Speaker
Alex Stieda raced road bicycles for 15 years of his life, from age 17 to 32. He raced for Canada’s national team from 1979 to 1992, the last 7 years as a professional. He competed in an average of 100 races a season over his 15 year career including winning the Yellow Jersey in the 1986 Tour de France of which he was the first North American to do so, 3rd in the 1983 Universiade in Edmonton and 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, and representing Canada at the 1984 Olympics.

After retiring from professional racing in 1992, he immediately transitioned to a Sales Manager for a bicycle manufacturer (Softride) based in Washington State. After 4 years, he re-located his family to Edmonton where he has worked in the Information Technology (IT) field.
