The John Cannon Award

The John Cannon Award is presented annually to the winner of The Ted Rogers School of IT Management (ITM) Case Competition, held each year in November.

The Competition is open to all undergraduate students in the Ted Rogers School at Ryerson University. It requires student teams to analyze a business case that deals with some aspect of Information Technology in business and society, prepare a formal presentation, and be evaluated by a panel of CIO Association judges.

The Competition enables students to apply the skills and knowledge gained in the classroom to a real business problem, and to gain a real-world perspective based on feedback they receive from the judges who are all senior IT professionals. The feedback, provided both formally during competition and informally over lunch, is regarded by students as one of the greatest benefits to participating in the competition.

The winning team is eligible to represent Ryerson at the International CaseIT competition held annually in Vancouver at Simon Fraser University, where 16 teams from around the world compete in an event similar to The Ted Rogers School of IT Management (ITM) Case Competition.

The members of the winning team are acknowledged by name, etched on The John Cannon Award, which is prominently displayed in the Ted Rogers School reception area.

The John Cannon Award is provided by the Ontario Chapter of the CIO Association of Canada in honour of John, who was a friend and strong supporter to the students in the Ted Rogers School of IT Management. John enjoyed meeting and chatting with the next generation of CIOs and providing his perspective as a senior IT leader at the Toronto Transit Commission. Prior to his retirement John was the president of the CIO Association, Ontario Chapter. John passed away on August 12, 2010. We are proud to honour the memory of John Cannon with this award for young IT professionals who will someday follow his example as a CIO leader.

Ontario Chapter Scholarship

To recognize the academic achievement of a full-time student in the Ryerson University - Ted Rogers School of Information Technology Management. To a full-time student with the highest grade in ITM 410 Business process Design at the end of their third year in the Ted Rogers School of Information Technology Management.
