Victoria First Event

        VICTORIA Chapter Inaugural Event:
Unlocking the Power of Cloud Computing

The CIO Association of Canada (CIOCAN) represents I.T. Executives and CIOs  in Canada. CIOCAN is a self managed, not-for-profit community of IT leaders whose mission is to facilitate networking, sharing of best practices and executive development, and to drive advocacy on issues facing IT Executives/CIOs. Membership is restricted to senior technology leaders; consultants and vendors do not qualify.

With five chapters and growing, this is the first event in Victoria of a planned Victoria chapter of the Association. We invite senior IT executives in Victoria to our first community event where you can network, learn, and discuss relevant business topics with your peers.

Date: Wednesday Feb 22, 2012
Time: 11:30 am – 1:30pm
Place: Room 151, Library and Learning Commons, Camosun College - Lansdowne Campus, 3100 Foul Bay Rd, Victoria
Fee: Complimentary for qualified participants

Speakers: Ian McLeod, Camosun College
              Andy Canty, Carmanah Technologies

One of the hottest topic discussed amongst I.T. leaders is Cloud Computing, from software-as-a-service to infrastructure. The reality is that most organizations are talking, not implementing, as they struggle to understand the business impact. Join us for a panel discussion by two CIOs with experience in delivering Cloud Computing solutions that have had an impact on their business.

Ian will be discussing the cloud from an educational perspective. Post-Secondary institutions in BC have some unique challenges and opportunities with cloud services.  Ian will discuss both categories, what makes PS different (and the same) as private sector when considering cloud services. Some examples of early adopters and their experiences will be presented.

Andy will discuss Cloud Computing from a mid-size business perspective, addressing why agility, channel reach and customer services should factor alongside cost benefit when assessing cloud services.
