John Cannon
Posted by Catherine Boivie, Past-President of the CIO Association of Canada
On August 12, 2010 our good friend John Cannon passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. John was the 2007 CIO Peer Forum Chair and the CIO Association Ontario chapter President.
If wealth would be measured in kindness and caring, John Cannon would have been a wealthy man. Yes, we remember John for all his contributions to the CIO Association but most of all we will miss his kind and gentle guidance. We especially remember the first morning of the 2007 Peer Forum that he chaired. We received an email from John at 5 a.m. that there were some computer issues at his work, but he hoped these would be resolved soon, and dropped by the conference so we'd have all the materials we needed. The issues were resolved by 10 a.m. and he joined all of his friends at the Peer Forum. At this year's Peer Forum, the attendees and speakers signed a large Get Well card for John -- we were all hoping he'd get better and join us at the next Peer Forum.
John ensured the CIOCAN Ontario chapter's viability by getting CIOs involved and building up a financial reserve. The chapter and the CIO Association will deeply miss him as a chapter president, national Board member and most of all as a friend!
On behalf of the CIO Association of Canada Boards and members we'd like to send our condolences to his family at this difficult time. He'll be remembered by all of us.
