To heighten awareness of the key role played by CIOs in organizational performance, CIOCAN has launched a strong and multi-pronged advocacy program. Targeting federal, provincial and regional governments, regulators, public policy makers, educators and key stakeholders in the business community, CIOCAN is positioned as an important resource on issues facing our economy and our society involving information technology.
We provide research, commentary and information about matters such as privacy legislation, the skills shortage and immigration and the expanding educational and apprenticeship opportunities in fields related to IT.

CIOCAN's response to the proposed AODA Standards in information and communications in Ontario
Summary: The Association called on a members to provide input on the latest accessibility standards proposal from the Ontario government. While the new standards are focused on Ontario the Association was able to provide a broader perspective and offer support in the implementation of the new standards.

Solving the IT Staffing Shortage: Challenges and Strategies - White Paper
Summary: Why is it so hard to get qualified IT staff at the intermediate and senior levels right now, where a combination of technology and business skills are required? What needs to be done to alleviate the current crunch and to ensure a good supply of qualified people for the future? How can the CIO Association of Canada (CIOCAN) make an effective contribution? As a first step, CIOCAN’s Advocacy Committee has commissioned this white paper, drawing on the available research and the expertise of its members and selected external parties. Once vetted by the membership, the paper’s recommendations will be used as the basis for an action plan that will put CIOCAN’s talents and resources to optimum use.
