David began work with BC Hydro in 1994 as BC Hydro’s Agricultural Specialist in the demand side management group called Power Smart. In 2001 David introduced new computer power management software to BC Hydro’s computing environment which marked BC Hydro as the first utility to adopt desktop power management. David went on to help develop new Information Technology programs as Power Smart’s IT Advisor among external customers. On desktop power management projects alone David’s work since 2001 has helped save over 500 million kWh/yr which is enough power to supply over 45,000 homes in B.C. a savings to us all of about $27 million each year. In 2008 David helped create Canada’s first server virtualization utility incentive program and in 2009 he helped create a New Construction Data Center incentive program. BC Hydro is considered to be a world utility leader in IT energy conservation.
