The Renaissance of ERP

For decades, enterprise application software (“enterprise resource planning”, or ERP) has been built the same way, with similar underlying tools and technology, automating the same business processes, in the same ways, and producing the same business outcomes. Despite seismic changes in information technology across the last thirty years – from client/server to the web to the rise of hyperscale computing – ERP systems have remained largely the same. But we believe this is finally changing, that ERP is finally undergoing a Renaissance of its own, and that something new is emerging. To find out why, we’ll compare the Renaissance of ERP of today to the Italian Renaissance of 500 years ago.
