Four Canadian tech leaders inducted into CIO Hall of Fame

Toronto, Ontario (July 16, 2020)  – Three veteran Canadian technology leaders and one next-generation leader were lauded for their contributions to their industry as they were inducted into the CIO Hall of Fame Thursday.

The quartet was praised for its business and technological vision, entrepreneurship, their capacity to drive enterprise transformation, and a demonstrated ability to drive value in the marketplace.

The 2020 CIO of the Year Award winners are:

  • Private Sector: Pierre Bonin, Vice-President & CIO, Videotron
  • Public Sector: Samantha Liscio, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, WSIB
  • Not for Profit: Thomas Wardman, Vice President, Digital Transformation & CIO, The Royal Conservatory of Music
  • Next Generation Leader: Ivan Yao, Manager, Program Effectiveness, WSIB

“When you look at the accomplishments of this year’s winners, it takes your breath away,” says ITWC CIO Jim Love, who was a member of the judging team. “From AI automation to digital transformation and culture change, the challenges they tackled were enormous. There is a lot we can learn by studying their success.”

Humza Teherany, President of the CIO Association of Canada, agreed and added “that it was truly inspiring to participate in the judging of these successful CIO submissions and to also have new awards category this year to recognize not-for-profit CIOs and a next-generation leader.”

The winners were selected by a panel of independent judges from dozens of submissions from across Canada. The CIO of the Year is presented by ITWC in partnership with the CIO Association of Canada. 

In addition to induction into the CIO Hall of Fame, winners receive a one-year membership in the Canadian CIO Association and a six-month subscription to IDC on Demand, a consulting service that offers live guidance through IDC research and assets on critical priorities.

The awards program was part of ITWC’s Digital Transformation Week which was supported by Service Now, SailPoint, CyberArk, Compugen, and OutSystems.
