Biography

IT Manager, Emerging Technologies, City of Calgary

Nan Xie is the IT Manager, Emerging Technologies and a senior professional engineer at The City of Calgary. He has been a part of the IT Innovation and Collaboration team since 2010. Reporting to the Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO), Nan is responsible for innovating, developing and enabling Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial robotics technologies for smart city applications. Nan and his team have consistently developed award-winning technology solutions that have not only enhanced the corporation’s service delivery but also garnered media attention. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Nan holds a Ph.D degree in machine learning and neural networks. He also lends his expertise to the academic community as an adjunct professor at The University of Calgary, where he supervises graduate students and conducts research on AI and IoT in his spare time.
